Borrowing from the Provincial Library Dr. Friedrich Teßmann

You must be registered with the Provincial Library Dr. Friedrich Teßmann in order to borrow items. It is a closed-shelf library and media are accessed via the catalogue, which shows the availability, location and shelfmark of the titles being searched for.

In order to borrow an item, first it must be ordered: log into the catalogue and click on “Reserve item” under the title you want. Then select the desired pick-up location and click on “Reserve”. A message will inform you that the reservation has been successful.

The item you have ordered will be ready for you to collect in approx. 15 mins from the collection shelf in the foyer of the Provincial Library for a period of ten days. You will find it under the first letter of your surname. You then need to use the self-checkout system to complete the loan procedure. You can use your library card, medical card or the new identity card to do this.

We display new acquisitions in the foyer every week. These can be borrowed without prior reservation.

Please note: items cannot be borrowed without presenting a library card and registering these on your library account.

A maximum of 20 media items may be borrowed. The loan period for all media is 30 days. An extension of 30 days can be granted from the first day of the loan, provided no reservations have been made by other users. The maximum loan period obtainable through extension is 120 days.

The following cannot be loaned out:

  • Reading room works
  • Old and valuable holdings (over 100 years old)
  • Audiovisual media (CDs, DVDs, etc.) released less than 18 months ago
  • Publications with loose pages and inserts
  • Newspapers
  • Periodicals
  • Graphic material
  • Materials in microform (microfilm/microfiche). These media can be viewed (after registering in person) in the microfilm reading room of the South Tyrol Provincial Archive (Südtiroler Landesarchiv) with the aid of special reading and copying devices (reader printers), and copied for a fee.
